Privacy Policy

Last updated: 28 October 2026

This policy explains what personal information we collect when you visit catsclawson.co.uk, why we collect it, and what rights you have. We keep things simple: we only collect what we need, we never sell your information, and we don’t use it for advertising.

Who we are

This website is run by Cats Clawson, author of the Buddy & Friends books, based in Chepstow, Monmouthshire, United Kingdom. Cats Clawson is the “data controller” for the personal information described here.

If you have any questions about this policy or your information, please email hcarpe1977@googlemail.com.

What we collect and why

When you contact us

If you use our contact form, we collect your name, email address, the subject and your message. We use this only to reply to you. Your message is sent to our email inbox (provided by Google) and is kept only as long as needed to deal with your enquiry. Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in responding to people who get in touch.

When you join our mailing list

If you sign up for our newsletter, we collect your name and email address so we can send you news about Buddy & Friends books, events and resources. This information is stored on our website. Our legal basis is your consent. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can also ask us to remove you at any time.

Website statistics (Google Analytics)

With your consent, we use Google Analytics to understand how many people visit the site and which pages are useful, so we can improve it. Google Analytics uses cookies and collects information such as the pages you view, how long you stay, the type of device and browser you use, and your approximate location. We do not use it to identify you personally. Analytics only runs fully if you click “Accept” on our cookie banner; until then, no analytics cookies are set. Google may process this data outside the UK under appropriate safeguards. See Google’s privacy policy for details.

Cookies

We use a small number of cookies. Some are essential for the site to work and to remember your cookie choices; others (statistics) are only used if you agree. You can change your choice at any time using the “Manage consent” button on the site. Full details are in our Cookie Policy.

Website security

To protect the site from attacks, our security software records the IP address of anyone who tries and fails to log in to the website’s admin area. These records are kept for a limited time and used only for security.

Links to other websites

Our site links to other services that have their own privacy policies, including:

  • Amazon: where our books are sold. Any purchase you make is handled entirely by Amazon.
  • Instagram: where you can follow Buddy.
  • Microsoft Forms: our optional education survey for teachers. Any answers you give are collected by Microsoft on our behalf.

We are not responsible for how those sites use your information, so please check their privacy policies.

Children

Our books are written for children, but this website is intended for parents, carers and teachers. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us their details, please contact us and we will delete them.

Who we share your information with

We never sell or rent your personal information. We only share it with the trusted services we use to run the website:

  • Hostinger, who host the website
  • Google, who provide our email and website statistics
  • Microsoft, if you choose to complete our education survey

We may also share information if the law requires us to.

How long we keep it

  • Contact messages: as long as needed to deal with your enquiry, then deleted.
  • Newsletter details: until you unsubscribe.
  • Analytics data: a limited period (no more than 14 months), then automatically deleted by Google.
  • Security logs: a limited time, for security purposes only.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

  • ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you
  • ask us to correct or delete it
  • withdraw your consent at any time (for example, by unsubscribing or changing your cookie choices)
  • object to or ask us to limit how we use your information

To use any of these rights, just email us at hcarpe1977@googlemail.com. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
